I’ve been away. I took a non-self-induced break from work.
I want to say that I’ve been overworking and doing the most and that’s why my body finally gave in and led me to take a long ass break to reset.
But really, I’ve been on a non-self-induced break for a WHILE now because I’m lacking inspiration and I just don’t see purpose anymore because social media is evil...
Well actually, reality check: I just lack discipline and consistency. :(
There’s inspiration to drive from everywhere. And I have too much inspiration, a whole lot of things I want to work on, and so many things saved in my content folder on Instagram. I’m just not putting out work because I can’t seem to get myself to actually do it.
The fact that you’re reading this now means I managed to get the ball rolling again!
If you’re feeling down about the things you’re creating or down about the things you’ve yet to create and if you feel like you’re right back at square one again, this is my love letter to you.
Hi you,
First of all, how are you doing?
Is your mind as well as your body today?
Did you hydrate and get a good meal yet?
Now, I get it, it probably sucks being a creative and not really putting out anything creative at all. Where are your juices flowing?
It’s normal, I’ve been there. (Too many times I can’t even count on one hand)
You’re not in a slump, you’re not bad at what you do, you just lack discipline and consistency. I don’t want to hear anything about being uninspired and having no purpose anymore. Because it’s easy to become demotivated, be scared of the future, and doubt yourself but one thing you can always count on is your passion and your discipline to keep on going.
Here’s how you can get the ball running again (and finally let yourself create again!)
Feel.
Notice how you really feel when you do what you love. It’ll give you a new sense of inspiration.
Slow down.
Having TOO much inspiration and TOO many ideas can be overwhelming too.
Focus on one for the moment so you get into the momentum of creating and then you’re good to go.
Each at your own pace.
Change space.
Sometimes being in a certain place negatively affects how motivated and inspired you can feel and can actually demotivate you and put you in a slump.
Find a safe, stimulating space to get some good work done and where you’re able to ideate comfortably.
Do.
No more excuses, just go for it. Imperfect or not, direction or not, just do anything.
Write a sentence, film a TikTok, create a new font, cut a piece of fabric, strum a guitar, anything.
Do what you love to do now and keep at what you love to do.
Practice makes perfect and builds habits.
You’re doing great and you’re destined for greatness!
Love,
Jerusha
